STaking the damping of bridge metal damping device as the technical background, a new C-type metal damping device is proposed in this paper. This device consists of two parts: operation module and damping module. Compared with the previous metal damping device, this device has stronger space universality、engineering practicability and more obvious cost advantage without disturbing the stress of the bridge structure in the normal use state. For the metal C-type damper in the damping module, a full-scale model experiment is carried out to test the hysteretic behavior of the damper in the horizontal direction. The experimental results show that the C-type damper has good hysteretic energy dissipation characteristics. Finally, taking a typical cable-stayed bridge as an example, the engineering practice of the new device in this paper is introduced, which provides a good case reference for the majority of designers.
